I have the same issue.
When I open the Error Console I can see the error:
TypeError: window.calendarItem is undefined
@  calendar-dialog-utils.js:402:1
function getCurrentCalendar() {
    let calendarNode = document.getElementById("item-calendar");
    return (calendarNode && calendarNode.selectedItem
                                ? calendarNode.selectedItem.calendar
-------->                        : window.calendarItem.calendar);

Problem is caused by Oracle Beehive Extension for Thunderbird, see the
other messages in this thread. You can disable the extension or go to
options - calendar and enable editing in tabs feature.
